Homicide in The Town of Salina

Incident Date/Time: January 9, 2026, at approximately 3:41 p.m.
Location: Sunflower Drive, Town of Salina
On January 9, 2026, at approximately 3:41 p.m., 911 received a call reporting a stabbing on Sunflower Drive in the Town of Salina.
Deputies from the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office responded and located one male victim suffering from a stab wound to the neck. The victim was immediately transported to Upstate University Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Following the incident, the suspect barricaded himself inside his residence. The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team was activated and attempted to negotiate with the suspect. During these negotiations, the suspect intentionally set fires inside the residence.
Firefighters from Liverpool Fire Department, along with Mattydale, Cicero, and additional mutual aid agencies, responded to the scene. Due to significant safety concerns, firefighters, under the protection of SWAT personnel, carefully extinguished the initial fire. Over the course of the nearly 14-hour standoff, the suspect ignited additional fires throughout the residence, resulting in extensive fire damage to the home.
At approximately 5:00 a.m. on January 10, 2026, SWAT team members, assisted by the Sheriff’s Office Drone Unit and K-9 Unit, breached the residence and located the suspect in the attic. The suspect was taken into custody and is currently receiving medical attention.
This remains an open and active investigation. Additional details, including the names of the victim and suspect, will be released later today as they become available.
**The victim in the Salina homicide is Taiwo Ogunsola, 38, from Liverpool, NY.
