ARREST MADE IN FIREARM THEFT CASE IN SALINA

On the morning of Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at approximately 7:00 AM, the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of stolen firearms from two separate vehicles located at different hotels in the Town of Salina.
Upon arrival, deputies determined that both vehicles belonged to out-of-town visitors and that a handgun had been stolen from each. In addition to the firearms, other personal property was also reported missing.
An investigation was immediately launched by the Sheriff’s Criminal Investigations Division (CID). By 2:00 PM that same day, detectives had developed a suspect. Following an interview, Qasim Brown, 24, of Syracuse, was taken into custody.
Brown was charged with the following offenses:
  • Grand Larceny in the Fourth Degree – Class E Felony
  • Criminal Possession of a Firearm – Class E Felony
  • Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree – Class D Felony
  • Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree – Class C Felony
Both stolen firearms — a Smith & Wesson .38 caliber revolver and a 9mm Sig Sauer pistol — were successfully recovered at Brown’s residence.
Qasim Brown is currently being held at the Onondaga County Justice Center.
