Town of Onondaga
For immediate release
On Sunday, June 29, 2025, shortly after midnight, 911 received a report of a gunshot fired toward a residence on the 200 block of West Roswell Avenue in the Town of Onondaga. Deputies from the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene, but the suspect had already fled the area. An investigation into the incident was immediately initiated.
The following day, Monday, June 30, 2025, at approximately 2:00 PM, deputies were once again dispatched to the same block for another report of shots fired. While responding, deputies observed a vehicle matching the suspect description from the previous night’s incident. Deputies conducted a traffic stop and identified the driver as Steven Homer, 39, of the Town of Onondaga. The handgun was recovered.
Homer was taken into custody without incident. Subsequent investigation determined he was the sole individual responsible for both shootings. No injuries were reported in either incident.
Steven Homer has been charged with the following offenses:

Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd (PL 265.03 Sub 03 – Class C Felony) – Possession of a loaded firearm

Criminal Use of a Firearm 2nd (PL 265.08 Sub 01 – Class C Felony) – Use of firearm during commission of a felony

Reckless Endangerment 1st (PL 120.25 – Class D Felony) – Recklessly engaging in conduct which creates a grave risk of death

Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th (PL 265.01 Sub 09 – Class A Misdemeanor) – Possession of a “ghost gun”

Criminal Mischief 4th (PL 145.00 Sub 01 – Class A Misdemeanor) – Intentional damage to property
Homer is currently being held at the Onondaga County Justice Center awaiting arraignment.
