The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a recurring phone scam circulating in our community. Scammers are impersonating members of the Sheriff’s Office and falsely claiming that the call recipient has missed jury duty. Victims are then threatened with arrest unless they pay a fabricated fine.
🔹 IMPORTANT REMINDER: The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office will never contact anyone by phone to request payment of any kind.
🔹 These scams are becoming increasingly sophisticated — some calls appear to come from legitimate or official-looking phone numbers.
🔹 Be alert: Never provide personal or financial information to unsolicited callers. If you didn’t initiate the call, do not engage.

If you receive such a call, hang up immediately and report the incident to your local law enforcement agency via 911
