Onondaga County Underwater Dive Unit recovered the missing body of the male who drowned in Tully Lake. Sonar detected the male today, and before noon, divers were able to recover the body. His name is still being withheld until confirmation that the next of kin has been notified.
Yesterday, at approximately 4:30 PM, two men were kayaking on Tully Lake when one of the kayaks tipped over. A 21-year-old male struggled in the water, prompting immediate rescue attempts by his companion and a bystander. Despite their efforts, the victim went under and could not be brought back on board.
The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office responded swiftly, deploying Air-1 and the Drone Unit in an effort to locate the victim. Rescue operations soon transitioned into a recovery mission.
Multiple agencies responded, including the Amber, Tully, and Otisco Fire Departments, along with the Sheriff’s Office Navigation and Dive Teams. Sonar equipment and divers were utilized throughout the evening in an attempt to locate the victim.
Operations were suspended around 9:30 PM due to nightfall and resumed early this morning. Updates will be provided as new information becomes available.
