Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office Arrests Kaitlyn Kudla on Multiple Charges, Including Vehicular Homicide

Onondaga County, NY – The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of Kaitlyn Kudla, 21, of Port Byron, NY, on February 26, 2025. Kudla faces multiple charges following an investigation into a fatal motor vehicle crash. Kudla was driving and lost control of her vehicle, which resulted in the death of passenger Riley Besner on West Seneca Turnpike in the Town of Onondaga on 11-3-2024.
Kudla has been charged with the following offenses:
  • PL 125.14 (Class B Felony) – Aggravated Vehicular Homicide
  • PL 125.12 (Class D Felony) – Vehicular Manslaughter in the Second Degree
  • PL 120.05 (Class D Felony) – Assault: Recklessly Causing Serious Injury with a Weapon (Motor Vehicle)
  • VTL 1192.2 (Unclassified Misdemeanor) – Operating a Motor Vehicle with a BAC of .08% or Higher (First Offense)
  • VTL 1212 (Unclassified Misdemeanor) – Reckless Driving
  • VTL 1128(a) (Infraction) – Moving from Lane Unsafely
The arrest follows an investigation into a crash that resulted in one fatality and additional injuries.  Onondaga County Sheriff’s deputies determined that Kudla was operating a vehicle under the influence, which led to the crash.  Kudla was arraigned and posted bail.
